Elements of Art
Line: different tools make different kinds of lines
Space: space exists all around us; we use illusions to create space in art Form: form is three-dimensional and takes up space Value: value refers to dark and light in a picture, drawing, or painting Shape: shapes come in many types and sizes Texture: texture is how the surface of something feels or looks Color: color can be bright, dull, dark, or light In this project, we learned about the seven elements of art and created a graphic design that correctly illustrated each element using Adobe Illustrator. I used tools such as the ruler to size the boxes evenly, the pencil tool to draw my own lines, as well as placing images from the internet onto a graphic design.
Starbucks LogoThis is the fourth project of the class; we recreated the iconic Starbucks logo by tracing over an image of the logo using the pen tool. We were told to modify the colors of the logo as well--I chose to make the mermaid, and the two outer stars, a light blue with a darker blue outline. After two classes, I finished my version of the Starbucks logo. The evolution of the Starbucks logo over the years is illustrated at the bottom of the graphic.
Landscape DesignWe were given one class period to create a landscape graphic design that was somewhat influenced by the famous artists Salvador Dali and Pablo Picasso. The landscape was required to show depth and keep in mind two of the elements of art: color and shape. I used the pen tool to create the shapes, the flare tool to enhance the sun, and I placed a sunset image on the background and a multiple transparent wave images on the ocean.
Converse Business CardI recreated the Converse (shoes) logo and placed it onto a business card. I used Adobe Illustrator to create the layout and information for the business card. We also had to include the crop marks on the outside of the designs.
WWF AdvertisementWWF is known for their powerful advertisements, so I created a cross word puzzle with the missing word that spells "help," and then the words "save them" placed at the bottom. I recreated the WWF Logo and made the advertisement on Illustrator.
Sartain's MenuI designed a sort of advertisement campaign for Sartain's Menu: a company that makes and sells flavorful, award-winning sauces and marinades. Using common fonts, designs, and colors, I connected each element of the campaign together so Sartain's is easily recognizable on all platforms. I used Illustrator on all of the graphic designs.
Holiday Fair FlyerThis handout was designed for the Casa Grande holiday far. Using the design guidelines of C.R.A.P. (see Illustrater Notes), I created this flyer using Illustrator.
Holiday PostcardThis was what I photoshopped to include on the Sartain's Menu holiday postcard. I cropped a fireplace, stockings, Sartain's Sauce, and Sartain's Marinade into the cropped stockings.

Dream Landscape in PhotoshopUsing Photoshop, we were assigned to create a dream landscape that included five different images opened and dragged into a base landscape. I blended the images into the underwater reef image by adding a layer mask and the eraser tool. I added the Statue of Liberty, an erupting volcano, a head from Easter Island, and airplane, and Ariel (the little mermaid).

Final Presentation
For our final, we were required to pick one of our design history notes and look further into it; researching and presenting the when, where, why, how, and 5 interesting pictures from the historical art. I chose to research the Dada Movement.

Old PhotosWe are learning how to fix old, damaged photos that have dust, scratches, or have lost some of their color. Today in class, we cropped three photos, played with the brightness/contrast, adjusted the levels, and then changed the hue/saturation of the photos. The first column has the original Polaroids, and the second column has my Photoshopped images.

Half Animal, Half HumanWith the skills and tools that we have in this class so far, we were tasked to create a half animal, half human image using the colorized portrait from our previous project. I infused Beyonce with the head of a lion using a Layer Mask, the Eraser Tool, and adjusting the opacity of the lion layer in order to try to smoothly transition it into Beyonce's face.

Major Design Firm Prezi
For this assignment, we had to find a design firm and research it: who, what, where, why, and how. We had to include some of there design work, along with important clients, photos, etc; I researched Project6 Design, which is a local firm for the Bay Area.

Sartain's Logo Remade
I remade the Sartain's Menu logo using Adobe Illustrator. Keeping the font of "Sartain's Menu" Garamond, and the basic oval-shaped logo, I simplified the old logo to give it a cleaner, more modern look to it. Below is the bottle label that I created using information from Sartain's website and formatting it onto a label in Illustrator.

Link Crew posterThe assistant principal tasked us with creating a simple poster for the "Link Crew" that will be at Casa Grande next year; link crew is a program designed to make incoming freshman feel welcomed and comfortable throughout the year by pairing them with an upperclassman (a junior or senior). I used Illustrator to vectorize a gaucho on a horse, and to design the poster.

Redone Casa WebsiteWe entirely redid the Casa Grande homepage of the school's website in Photoshop. I wanted to keep the design simple, linear, and easily organized/viewed by others. The colors are green and gold--our school colors. The PSD file was merged into only three layers on Photoshop: one for text, one for pictures, and one for other "elements" (such as shapes).

Magazine Design Survey Prezi

"The Big House" Magazine CoverFor this assignment, I created a magazine cover for our school. I used Adobe Photoshop and created numerous text layers with the information about each page/article in the magazine. The title of the magazine, "The Big House," has a layer mask and was erased in order to look like it is behind the background horse image. There are 10 items listed on the page -- including a Project SERVE Update and the "Makerspace Issue."
|
"The Big House" Two-Page Magazine SpreadWe had to create a new InDesign document (at a horizontal tabloid size) with 8 columns. The magazine spread required 3 photos per page, drop capped articles, pages numbers, justified text, Serif and Sans Serif, along with a good use of C.R.A.P. and color. I created page 9 and 10 that were teased on the front page of my magazine; prom and athletics.
|
"Stop Stealing Sheep" Notes 3-Panel BrochureFor this assignment, I designed a three-panel brochure (front and back) using the "Stop Stealing Sheep" graphic design notes from class. Each panel had to include at least three notes and one picture; mine has 24 notes and six pictures total. I used InDesign to complete this project, using Adobe Photoshop occasionally to crop some of the pictures.

NewsletterFor this project, I created a five-age newsletter on Adobe InDesign. Utilizing master pages and and a common "body text" on Paragraphs & Styles, my newsletter included a brief summary of myself: my summer, my college and career plans, and my travel dreams. The first page of the newsletter is a photo montage of myself using at least five different photos that describe and encompass who I am. We were assigned to write ten or more brief paragraphs in total and include ten or more photos for the entire newsletter.
